Remodel Journey

It’s been a few weeks since we began our remodel journey. Our house is covered in dust. Rugs are piled on top of coffee tables. The walls are lined with random things because all of the laundry cabinets are taken down. All this to say, our home isn’t my sanctuary like I like it to be, but it’s going to be so beautiful at the end of these days of remodeling.

Here are the renovations we will be making:

1. We will have our first combined master bedroom, bath and closet since we were married 16 years ago. We went from apartment living to buying our home 10 years ago. Our 1950’s home was designed with a master setting. But it’s been where we have loved, cried, faced loss, fought, partied, danced and so much entertaining. I feel thankful but I am excited for this new season of our home.

2. Next, we will be knocking out a wall in the kitchen. Opening the kitchen allows for a more open floor plan and also increases our opportunities to entertain. Entertaining is very important to me. I know that God has gifted me with hospitality, so with anything that I do in my home, I think about my family and friends and their experiences when they come over. It’s so important to me to see that everyone who comes into my home is comfortable.

3. Lastly, we are updating our fireplace! We currently have a white brick fireplace and will be framing it out and drywalling over it.

All this to say, we are living in a mess but I am excited to see our home become even more beautiful. I am having to learn to find peace in the midst of a mess, which is a bit of a challenge for me because I often find my rest in a clean and organized home.

What are your tips for maintaining your peace in the thick of chaos?

This space was a tiny garage and a small laundry room. We made design plans to transform it into our first ever master bedroom, bath and a new laundry room. We will connect the office to this space to make it all fit.

Here are some recent plans we drew up ourselves. The tiny corner room in the master will also be removed which will allow the bedroom to be larger. The L shape space is our new closet. We have shared the tiniest closet for years, so I am excited to have some breathing room for my wardrobe.

Our home is disorganized. It is covered in dust. Everything is piled on top of each other. There is no space to just be and enjoy but I know this is just for a short season. My home will be so beautiful at the end of all of this. So for now we will live in the dust and let the workers continue to do their magic.

We have a lot of details to choose still but we did make a choice on the flooring color for our entire home. I am looking forward to getting rid of the dark floors and bringing a brightness to our space with this gorgeous flooring from Cali Bamboo (no this isn’t bamboo, I would encourage not to do bamboo in the desert).
